With the legislation of 8 years compulsory education, Asım Kocabıyık Foundation for Culture and Education, acting upon its sense of responsibility and under a joint initiative with Borusan Automotive, constructed Borusan Automotive Zehra Nurhan Kocabıyık Elementary School in Avcılar adjacent to Istanbul University Campus.
The school started education in October 1998 and has been a role model not only in our country but also in developed western countries by offering all the opportunities that a modern educational institution can provide. Utmost effort has been spent to make this come about.

The architectural plans of the three-storey school building incorporating 30 classrooms were designed by Prof. Dipl. Ing. Architect Metin Hepgüler and the school was completed in the short span of eight months at a cost of US$ 3.5 million. Computer and projection systems were installed in all classrooms and educational areas of the school, where Clever Classroom Project was being applied since the beginning of 2005-2006 academic year. This system allowed the ready-to-use software programs and information received through the Internet to be transferred from the computers to the projectors and presented to the students. All classrooms are connected to each other through the NETWORK and have access to the outside wo rld through the Internet. In addition to its classrooms, the school enjoys four pre-school classes, two workshops, a music room, an art workshop, a science laboratory, a computer room, a chess room, a library,
an infirmary, a cafeteria and administrative offices. The multi-purpose area that can be used both
as a gymnasium
or two separate meeting rooms is one of the highlights of the school’s facilities.
In its second academic year (1999-2000), the school was incorporated into the Curriculum Laboratory Schools, which, at that time, numbered only 40 in the whole country. With a maximum of 30 students in a class, the Borusan Automotive Zehra Nurhan Kocabıyık Elementary School has become a Study-Nutrition School by the approval of Elementary School General Administration on July 14, 2004.
One of the 12 Study-Nutrition Schools in Istanbul, the elementary school caters for the children of working parents. In its efforts to create nature-friendly pupils, the school has a botanical garden and an animal shelter promoting love for
animals while at the same time providing a protective environment for stray animals.
With a capacity of 900 students, Borusan Automotive Zehra Nurhan Kocabıyık Elementary School is distinctively different from other schools regarding its facilities and architectural design. The small class sizes, healthy environment for the students, features that are different than those of classical elementary schools and its ISO 9002 quality certificate have made the school extremely popular.
