Asım and Nurhan Kocabıyık Teachers’ Residence, which was inaugurated by Mrs. Sezer, the wife of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer on November 24, 2005, is built to meet, at least to some extent, the social needs of our teachers who had worked so hard in bringing Turkey to where it is today.
Adjacent to the Avcılar Seabus Pier and across from the National Independence Park and the Atatürk Residence Museum, the Teachers’ Residence is built on an area of 250 m2 with a closed area of 1.340 m2. The Residence has a multi-purpose hall, a restaurant, seven rooms for lodging, a cafeteria, a library and hair salons for both men and women.
Furnished completely by the Foundation, the Teachers’ Residence had cost YTL. 1.500.000. All ground surve ys were completed for the residence, which is located on a first-degree earthquake hazard zone. The construction of the building involved the positioning of 43 forestays of 30 cm in diameter at the back and 209 jet-grout pegs of 80 cm in diameter for the building’s foundation. A total of 169 jet-grout steel-reinforced fortification pegs of 6 meters in length and 160 mm in diameter were nailed into the ground and all geo-technical precautions were taken to prevent neighboring buildings
from sliding. Subsequently, the construction was rapidly completed and the building was inaugurated.
