In February 2005, Asım Kocabıyık Foundation for Culture
and Education decided to build a vocational college upon
the request of Uludağ University.
Sunğipek plant, which had been named and inaugurated by
Atatürk on February 1, 1938, was allocated to the use of
Uludağ University in 2004, and construction works followed.
In October, 2005, Asım Kocabıyık Foundation for Culture
and Education started to build a two-storey building on
what was originally a one-storey warehouse spread over an
area of 2.200 m2, using the application projects prepared
by Uludağ University. It was completed and inaugurated in
2006. "Uludağ University Gemlik Asım Kocabıyık Vocational
College" was handed over to Uludağ University on November
14, 2006.
I n the main building, there are 11 classrooms, 7 fully equipped
laboratories, rooms for meetings, recreation, sketching,
reading and seminars, a library, a cafeteria and adequate
number of offices for the academic staff.
The college has three departments consisting of the Technical
Programs Department with "Food Technology", "Mapping and
Cadastral Survey" and "Agricultural Production" programs;
Economics and Business Administration Programs Department;
and Maritime Programs Department. In coming years, five
more programs are planned to be added.
