With its belief that economic, social and cultural development
may only be possible through education, Asım Kocabıyık Foundation
for Culture and Education has, since its establishment in
1992, been providing scholarships for deserving children
of limited resources.
In 1997, the Foundation decided to
support the national mobilization for education, contributing
to the cause the following year by launching two new schools:
a vocational school and an 8-year primary school.
Asım Kocabıyık
Foundation for Culture and Education continued with its
support for education by building two dormitories and a
vocational college at the Kocaeli University Hereke Borusan
Campus, which had been highly damaged during the 1999 earthquake
that had stricken the province of Kocaeli. These buildings
were completed and handed over to the University in 2001.
Asım and Nurhan Kocabıyık Teachers’ Residence, which was
inaugurated by Mrs. Sezer, the wife of President Ahmet Necdet
Sezer on November 24, 2005, is to provide, at least to some
extent, for the social needs of our teachers who had worked
so hard in bringing Turkey to where it is today.
Pursuant
to the protocol signed between Asım Kocabıyık Foundation
for Culture and Education and Istanbul University on June
3, 2005, the Economics Department Library located on the
ground floor and the two basements was completely renovated
and refurbished after being reinforced against earthquakes
in line with the project prepared by Istanbul University.
In October 2005, the construction of Asım Kocabıyık Vocational
College was initiated on the land of the historical Sunğipek
Facilities in Gemlik Bay, which had been allocated to Uludağ
University. The works were completed and the school was
opened in 2006, and the building was handed over to Uludağ
University on 14 November.
The foundation consecrated all
its activities and allocated its whole budget for 2007 and
2008 to the construction of the Dean’s Office and the buildings
of the Law Department on the Uludağ University Gemlik Sunğipek
Campus, which is already under way.
